Unfortunately tragedy would strike once again in Fraserburgh when the ‘Duchess of Kent’ attended a distress call from Danish ship, The Opal. As the lifeboat guided the ship back to port through massive swells, 36 miles off Kinnaird Head, the boat was capsized. The lives of crewmen John Stephen, Fred Kirkness, William Haddon, James Slessor and James Buchan were all sadly lost with John (Jackson) Buchan the sole survivor.
