Accepted by the BBC in 1977, James Duthie’s second teleplay, ‘The Drystane Dyker’, produced by BBC Scotland, would eventually air on the 2nd of January 1980. It was another another story of relationships, conflict and the human condition which won the Harry Govan Memorial Trophy.

Featuring the talents of Derek Anders, Edith MacArthur and Fiona Knowles, the play dealt with themes of alcoholism and family. James Duthie was inspired to write the story after meeting a drystane dyker at Torphins and upon learning the heavy losses suffered by the village during WWI.
