The Rattray Family

A number of films within the archive were taken from 8mm film shot by George Rattray and the Rattray family of Fraserburgh. They were well known in the town for owning an ice cream shop and cafe on High Street which in the late 1960s became a casino before being shut down a few years later due to changes in the gambling licensing regulations. The films from the Rattray family collection are invaluable in giving a glimpse of the Broch as it once was.

The films featured were very kindly provided by the daughter of Mr and Mrs Rattray, Edith. She worked during the summer in the family’s kiosk, which can be seen in the pictures above, at the links near Fraserburgh beach, and also in the shop itself.
