Rev. Charles Birnie

Rev. Charles Birnie, a former minister at Tyrie Kirk, is featured in an interview filmed by Jim Taylor. Rev. Birnie was not only a minister, historian and keen gardener but also a proponent of the Doric, encouraging its use and conducting some of his sermons in the local dialect.

Being a local historian, Jim Taylor was approached to write a piece for the Buchan Heritage Society which Rev. Birnie was heavily involved with. From their first meeting at Jim’s house, their mutual knowledge and interest in the history of the area led the pair to become good friends, with Jim eventually interviewing Rev. Birnie at the manse in Tyrie.

This short clip from the interview, in which he talks about the garden and history of the manse grounds, features Rev. Birnie discussing how he always feels surrounded by friends when in his garden.
